My play Slipping, starring Andrew Scott and Charlotte Riley, was the Afternoon Play on BBC Radio 4 on Monday 1st September 2014. Slipping is a darkly comic two-hander exploring an unlikely relationship that develops between two expert liars: a prosthetic eye specialist and his patient.
"This is a pas-de-deux in lying... mesmeric... Toutoungi writes with wit and zip...laugh-aloud lines enhanced by an economy of phrasing." (Three Stars: The Stage)
Previously, while working as a producer at BBC Radio Drama, I directed many plays and readings, including the award-winning Exiled from Paradise by Anita Sullivan, Standing Sideways by Matt Charman and Well by Jane Bodie.
In 2014, the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough is producing two of my plays:
"Bit Part... uses Little Voice to great effect" - The Scarborough News
"On the evidence of Slipping, [Toutoungi] is definitely one to watch" - The York Press
In 2013 my play Outside In was one of seven pieces selected for HotINK, a rehearsed reading series of international work at Manhattan’s Lark Play Development Centre. It was directed by Giovanna Sardelli and starred Matthew Boston and Roxanna Hope.
"This is one of those lovely and rare plays that manages to be classical and surprising, funny and thought-provoking, and carefully crafted, but with a light-hearted touch." - Melissa Parrish, Dramaturg at the Lark Play Development Centre, Manhattan.
“The play takes an excellent sideways glance at a classic romantic scenario.” - Henry Bell, Associate Director, Stephen Joseph Theatre.
Other plays includes Life Skills (Shared Experience Youth Theatre at The Hampstead Theatre), Risk Assessment (Rapid Writes Response at Theatre 503), Room Service (Salon Collective at The Cockpit Theatre) and Dumb (Corpus Playroom, Cambridge). I have also had work produced by Menagerie Theatre Company at The Junction, Cambridge and Drip Action Theatre Company, Arundel.
